During World War II, Mr.Jagdish Chandra Mahindra (1891 - 1950) - Advisor to The Government of India; the First Indian to become the Iron and Steel Controller of India & Mr.Kailash Chandra Mahindra (1894 - 1963) - Head of the Indian Supply Mission to Washington, USA, wrote our history in Steel.
They founded M&M in 1945, as a Marketing Organisation trading in Steel, establishing valuable links with most of the leading steel producers & users across the globe. These extraordinary men cherished dreams of building a plant for the manufacture of Tool, Alloy and Special Steels in India.
Their dreams realised when Mr.Rene Perrin - Inventor of the Perrin Process & Chairman of Societe D'Electro-Chimie D'Electro-Metallurgie et des Aciers Electriques D'Ugine offered to join hands with Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and International Finance Corporation, Washington D.C. to promote Mahindra Ugine Steel Co. Ltd. (MUSCO) in 1962 to produce Alloy and Special Steels.
Right from inception, to its current stature of being the Carte D'Identite for Alloy & Special Steels in India, MUSCO flourished under the leadership of Mr. Harish Chandra Mahindra (1923 - 1999).
